Where to stay in New Caledonia
Most people base themselves in Nouméa (3–4 nights), adding 2–3 nights on the Isle of Pines and 2–4 on one of the Loyalty Islands. On the east coast and the islands, a night in a tribal homestay is an experience in itself.
Tribal homestays
Guest houses and bungalows on tribal land — a simple format, but the most authentic one. Book ahead and respect local customs (the “coutume” on arriving in the tribe, the dress code).
