- A day trip or a couple of quiet nights
- How many nights
- 1–2
- Climate
- Drier than Basse-Terre, sunny.
A small archipelago 10 km south of Basse-Terre. Life centres on Terre-de-Haut: a village of colourful houses, a bay full of sailing boats, Fort Napoléon on its hill, and the beaches of Pompierre and Pain de Sucre. There are almost no cars — people get around on electric scooters and on foot.
Ferries run from Trois-Rivières (about 20 minutes) and Pointe-à-Pitre. In the evening, once the day trippers have left, the island becomes very quiet.
Highlights: Fort Napoléon · Pompierre beach · The climb up Le Chameau (309 m) · The village of Terre-de-Haut.
