About the area: Salazie cirque

Best for
Gentle walks, a Creole village, the way into Mafate over the Col des Bœufs
How many nights
1–2
Climate
Humid: clear mornings, often fog and rain after midday.

The north-eastern cirque is the most accessible and the wettest: the road from Saint-André follows a gorge with dozens of waterfalls, including the Voile de la Mariée (“Bride's Veil”).

Hell-Bourg is listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”: Creole houses with gardens, the former thermal baths and the Maison Folio museum. Trails to the Trou de Fer through the Bélouve forest start here, and the Col des Bœufs is the shortest way into Mafate (about 2 hours to La Nouvelle).

Highlights: Hell-Bourg · Voile de la Mariée · Into Mafate over the Col des Bœufs · The Bélouve forest and the Trou de Fer.
